Our great native plant expert John Koon got the students started on building the capillary beds that will be the cornerstone of our native plant restoration program. These plants will eventually be replanted in restoration projects around King County. The capillary beds consist of a bottom layer of soil, black fabric and plastic placed on top of that, and 3-4″ of sawdust on top. The propagated native plants are placed in the sawdust and left to grow for an extended period of time.
