Kindergarten’s first trip to the garden!

The first day of kindergarten garden class is always super memorable. This garden program is really about exposing kids to the joys of plants, food, and the natural world.

Yes, I picked this.

Yes, I picked this.

Our first class had us enjoying the annual tradition of picking our very own carrot out of the garden. This simple act (which 80% of kids said was their first time) helps them know forever where the delight of a carrot comes from. To see it all covered in mud and then washed off just might be the catalyst for deeper food understanding.

Students also picked their own cherry tomatoes, along with many other delicious plants, herbs, and fruits.

Fall Harvest Celebration

We practiced walking respectfully through the garden, using two hands to harvest, and using our rule of thumb(pick ONE thing at a time & keep it generally the size of your thumb.) It was a great day and we look forward to this whole year!
