    Hi there!

I love the blog and all the wonderful stories and pictures!

Do you have a link to reports or stories about how working in the orca garden has helped kids succeed in highschool? I’d love to hear about how older kids stay connected or mentor younger kids.

    Thanks!

    Anthony,

I was the teacher who stayed the longest and asked the most questions at the “Green Team” presentation you gave last wek at the Healthy Schools Summit at the Seatac Mariott. Thanks again.

Say, because I am new to the state and am just finishing my Procert, the lady at my distict office who does the clock hours told me there was no point in getting more clock hours yet, so I didn’t sign up for them at the conference. Since I didn’t sign up for them, they are saying I need some proof that I attended in order to be reimbursed for the tuition. Aparently all my notes and hand-outs don’t count. They tell me hat if one of the presenters fom the seminar e-mails me and says that yes, I did attend the coference, they will count that as evidence. Could you please respond to the e-mail address I entered, write a short, formal note and say that I did attend? Thanks.

I will try to come visit your school sometime.

    Hello Anthony,
I tried emailing you at the Orca email, but you may not have received it. I was unable to leave you a phone message so I hope this reaches you.
I will be teaching the Green Thumbs class at Beacon Hill beginning next week. I was hoping to see if we could get some starts from your garden at Orca. I am free to pick things up if this is something you would be able to do again. I was hoping for peas for this first class if possible.
You can reach me at easinclair@seattleschools.org or my home phone: 206 325 6739.
    Libby Sinclair
    Thank you so much.

So I just wanted to give you one more an example of how awesome Orca’s school garden is. I attended Orca Elementary School almost 25 years ago. The school garden was built while I was a student there, and I can remember creating mosaics, building worm bins, and growing so many beautiful plants. My favorite memories of the garden were the times that my teachers Liz, Dave, and Gary (we had 3rd-5th blended classes then) let us go outside, find a quiet spot, and journal our garden observations.
Fast forward 25 years and now I have the wonderful opportunity of caring for a school farm and teaching elementary children! In my own farm space (we call it a Farm Lab) I get to witness, and in many ways re-experience, the joys and discoveries of having a garden at school.
I’m so happy to know that Orca’s garden still growing and celebrating all that is natural with students.
