Epic summer paving the way for amazing school year!

Wet view from above

What a summer! We are growing massive amounts of everything delicious that kids love (or will learn to love we hope!). As I was caught in a massive thunderstorm that made the power go out, it was a great time to reflect on the coming year and how great it is going to be. We are planning the best year yet- full of diverse activities, social justice, cooking, nutrition, environmental awareness & activism, and of course- fun!

Lucky storms

Lucky storms!

It feels like we are breaking some personal records for food production, food bank donations, and SIZE of plants. So thank you to all the parents who have helped out watering this summer. Thank you especially to Bevin, who is a superstar parent volunteer that helps with EVERYTHING! Soon YOU (new & current Orca parents & community) can help volunteer in the garden if you like…we will reach out to you soon.

It's officially the year of the tomatoes

It’s officially the year of the tomatoes

Our relationship with Rainier Valley Food Bank is a great partnership and we are dropping off a lot of food this summer because of all this heat. This was 10 pounds of tomatoes pulled out of our massive tomato jungle yesterday that needed to be strung up because it was almost collapsing the cages that helped it grow.

The BIGGEST Orca pumpkin patch ever. Sorry Mr. McCullough!

This pumpkin patch! It’s crazy thinking about how kindergarten will get outta that room! So we will be roasting pumpkins and seeds for sure.

The TALLEST structure ever grown at Orca!

The TALLEST structure ever grown at Orca!

The three sisters are in full effect (squash, corn, and beans) up this massive bamboo structure. Kids will be able to go get in there, get lost, and eat their way out.
